Soledad-Mission Recreation District

Soledad-Mission Recreation District: Overview & Activities

The Soledad-Mission Recreation District (often fondly referred to as “The Rec”) serves as the vibrant parks and recreation service provider by building "community since 1962" through diverse programs and inclusive services. (smrpd.specialdistrict.org, soledadrec.org).

Often confused with the City of Soledad- the Soledad-Mission Recreation District is it’s own special district, with it’s very own Board of Directors. The Rec receives a small portion ($0.17 on every $100 of assessed value) of the property taxes every parcel owner pays to the County of Monterey in property taxes.

The District has never increased it’s tax rate instead has been trying to fund operations and repairs with the same assessment as when founded in 1962. Now our beloved facility, our memorable programs, and our infrastructure needs investment to bring us into 2025. Do we have your support community?

Aquatics & Swim Offerings

At the heart of their services is a well-maintained but aging indoor pool, hosting a wide range of aquatic programs—from recreational swims, lap and adult swim sessions, family and sensory-safe swims, to toddler classes, water aerobics, swim team prep, and lifeguard training. They also offer swim lesson clinics (parent & child, teen, adult), private lessons, pool rentals, and a competitive Dolphin Swim Team.

Sports, Fitness & Programming

The District supports youth and adult athletic engagement through sports like girls’ softball, martial arts (Kempo Karate, Jujitsu, Eskrima), Aikido, mini sports camps (Ages 2-5), mini soccer, Mini t-ball, movement/tumbling classes, and pose and play yoga classes.

Art Programs-

The Rec has been offering step-by-step paint courses and art programming since 2013.  From summer Art Camps for kids, to specialty classes for SUSD Teachers (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day) to service contracts with SUSD to bring mindfulness and creative art programming to our afterschool and summer schools here in Soledad. We believe in the vibrant creative community of Soledad.

Recreation Passes & Rentals

Affordable punch passes are available for different age groups (adult, youth, senior) that include access to aquatics programs. The District also offers private pool party rentals and school group rentals with tiered pricing, making facilities accessible for gatherings and special events.

Community Events & Outreach

The District fosters community connection through signature events and attempts to support and collaborate with local community recreation and youth organizations and service providers whenever possible.

Overall Mission

Through strong partnerships, transparent governance, and community-centered programming, the Soledad-Mission Recreation District cultivates enrichment, safety, and wellness for all ages in Soledad.
