Family Swim is a recreational swim time designed for families to enjoy the pool together in a safe, welcoming environment. It is especially well suited for families with young children and provides time for swimming, water play, diving board fun, and relaxing together at the facility.

Family Swim is based on active adult participation and supervision. Parents and adult family members are required to be in the water with the children they accompany—not supervising from the pool deck. Adults help children follow pool rules, make safe choices, and enjoy positive physical activity together.

Lifeguards remain responsible for overall pool safety and emergency response; however, lifeguards do not replace direct parental or adult supervision.

Space is limited and participation may be restricted based on facility capacity and available pool space.

Participation & Supervision Requirements

All posted facility and pool rules apply during Family Swim, in addition to the following:

• Adult supervision is required. Children must be accompanied in the water by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult family member age 17 or older.
• Maximum of three children per supervising adult. One adult may be responsible for no more than three children during Family Swim.
  • Maximum of two children per supervising adult when the children are under 48" in height.
  • Children under 48 inches require close supervision. The supervising adult must remain in the water and within arm's reach of any child under 48 inches tall.
• Flotation devices require direct supervision. Children using an approved life jacket or other permitted flotation device must remain within arm's reach of their supervising adult at all times.
• No flotation devices are permitted in the deep end. Children who require a flotation device must remain in designated areas of the pool.
• Deep-water swimming requires a swim test. Children and adults must successfully complete the District's swim test before entering designated deep-water areas.
• Diving board use requires a swim test. Participants must successfully complete the required swim test before using the diving board and must follow all posted diving-board rules and lifeguard instructions.
• Pool toys may be permitted. Appropriate water toys may be used at the lifeguard's discretion. Toy use may be limited or discontinued based on attendance, available space, programming, or safety conditions.
  • Hard balls are not allowed.

Family Swim Expectations

Family Swim is intended to be an interactive family activity. Adults are expected to actively supervise and engage with the children they bring to the pool.

Parents and supervising adults are responsible for helping children follow facility rules and lifeguard directions. Running, unsafe play, inappropriate diving, prolonged breath-holding, rough play, or other activities determined to be unsafe are not permitted.

Lifeguards may restrict activities, equipment, toys, or access to areas of the pool when necessary to maintain a safe environment for all participants.
